Treehotel & Special Accommodations
Northern Sweden has some of the most extraordinary accommodations in the world besides the ICEHOTEL:
★★ Treehotel (Harads)
The Treehotel in Harads (60 km south of Luleå) is what happens when Swedish design meets the forest: Seven unique treehouses, designed by different architects, float between the pines — each an architectural masterpiece. The most famous:
- The Mirrorcube: A 4×4×4 meter cube made of mirrored glass that reflects the surrounding trees and thus becomes practically invisible. Inside: minimalist birch wood design, double bed, rooftop terrace.
- The Bird's Nest: Looks like a giant bird's nest from the outside — chaotic branches and twigs, but inside a cozy design hotel.
- The UFO: A UFO made of composite material that floats between the trees. Sci-fi meets forest.
- The 7th Room: The newest and largest treehouse — 10 meters above the ground, with panoramic windows, wooden terrace, and space for a family. Below hangs a net where you can lie like in a hammock and look into the treetops.
Prices: from 5,500 SEK (480 €) per night including breakfast. Activities: Dog sledding, northern lights, sauna raft. Open year-round — summer (midnight sun) and winter (northern lights) are equally spectacular.
★ Arctic Bath (Harads)
Directly on the Lule River, not far from the Treehotel: A floating spa in the form of a giant wooden raft circle, designed by Bertil Harström. In winter, it is surrounded by ice, in summer it floats on the river. Cold water bathing, sauna, northern lights from the roof — wellness in the wilderness.
★ Brändön Lodge (Luleå)
In winter, the Gulf of Bothnia off Luleå transforms into an ice landscape — Brändön Lodge offers overnight stays in chalets by the sea and activities such as icebreaker cruises (on the research icebreaker Polar Explorer — you can jump into the icy sea, in a survival suit of course), hovercraft tours, and snowmobile safaris over the frozen sea.
