Cerro San Cristóbal — Santiago's Green Lung

The Cerro San Cristóbal (880 m) in Parque Metropolitano is the largest urban park in South America — four times the size of New York's Central Park. From its summit, you have the most spectacular view over Santiago: The endless city stretches to the horizon, with the snow-capped Andes peaks towering into the sky beyond.

There are three ways up: The historic Funicular (cable railway, since 1925) from Bellavista, the Teleférico (cable car), or on foot (about 45 minutes, a beautiful hiking trail). At the top, a 22-meter-high Virgin Mary statue stands, and there's a café, a Japanese garden, and a swimming pool (Piscina Tupahue).

On clear days — especially after winter rains — the view extends to Aconcagua (6,961 m), the highest mountain in the western hemisphere.

💡 Tipp

Come for the sunset! The view over Santiago, when the city is bathed in golden light and the Andes turn pink, is unforgettable. On weekends, Santiaguinos come to jog, picnic, and mountain bike — the park is Santiago's favorite leisure oasis.
