Frutillar — The Chilean Salzburg

Frutillar is a postcard town on the west shore of Lago Llanquihue with Osorno Volcano as a postcard backdrop — and the strongest German heritage of all Chilean towns. In the mid-19th century, German settlers came to Frutillar, bringing their architecture, cuisine, and music. Today, the town is a charming place with rose gardens, half-timbered houses, strudel cafés, and Chile's best classical music festival.

• Museo Colonial Alemán: Open-air museum with authentic German settler houses, a forge, water mill, and a schoolhouse. Shows the life of German immigrants in the 19th century. 4,000 CLP
• Teatro del Lago: An architectural masterpiece right on the lake — one of the best concert halls in South America. In January/February, the Festival Musical de Frutillar takes place here: Classical music with a lake view and volcano panorama. Concert tickets from 15,000 CLP
• Costanera (Waterfront Promenade): 1 km along the lake with jetties, flower beds, and the iconic Osorno Volcano view. In the morning, the volcano reflects in the smooth lake — THE photo motif of the Chilean lake district
• Playa de Frutillar: Black volcanic sand beach on the lake — in summer, locals swim here, but the water is cold (15–18°C)

Frutillar is Chile's cake capital — the legacy of German baking traditions:

Café del Llanquihue · Av. Philippi 1065 — The classic: Apple strudel, Black Forest cake, and cake with Dulce de Leche. All homemade, huge portions. Slice of cake with coffee 5,500 CLP.

Lavanda Café · Vicente Pérez Rosales 743 — Lavender theme, homemade scones, and lavender latte. Pretty garden. 4,000–6,000 CLP.
