Budget & Costs
Chile is the most expensive travel destination in South America — comparable to Southern Europe. Patagonia and the Atacama are particularly costly. In return, you get infrastructure and safety that are unmatched in South America.

💡 Tipp
The most affordable way to travel in Chile: use long-distance buses (the "Semi-Cama" and "Cama" classes are fantastically comfortable), eat the "Menú del día" for lunch (three courses for 5–8€), stay in hostels, and enjoy the free hiking trails in the national parks. Patagonia and Atacama are expensive — but the experiences are priceless.
