Overview of Regions

Chile can be divided into four major travel regions, which differ radically in climate and landscape:

Santiago & Central Chile

For whom: City explorers, wine lovers, culture fans
The capital Santiago is nestled between the snow-capped Andes and the coastal range. It surprises with a dynamic culinary scene, exciting museums, and the vibrant Barrio Bellavista. The surrounding area boasts the wine regions of Maipo and Casablanca as well as the UNESCO city of Valparaíso — one of the most photogenic cities in South America.

Atacama & North

For whom: Adventurers, photographers, stargazers
The driest desert in the world is a place of superlatives: the Valle de la Luna with its surreal rock formations, the El Tatio geysers at 4,320 meters, the flamingo lagoons of the Salar de Atacama, and the clearest night sky on the planet. San Pedro de Atacama is the cozy base camp for all adventures.

Patagonia & Tierra del Fuego

For whom: Trekkers, nature lovers, adventure travelers
The end of the world — and at the same time one of the most beautiful places on earth. The Torres del Paine National Park with the legendary W-Trek, the glaciers of the Carretera Austral, the Marble Caves on Lake General Carrera, and the endless expanse of the Patagonian steppe, over which the notorious wind sweeps.

Lake District & Chiloé

For whom: Families, outdoor fans, culture travelers
Chile's "Little Switzerland": snow-capped volcanoes reflect in crystal-clear lakes, Araucaria forests and hot springs invite you to linger. Pucón at the foot of the active Villarrica Volcano is the adventure mecca, Puerto Varas the charming starting point for Volcano Osorno, and the island of Chiloé enchants with UNESCO wooden churches and colorful stilt houses.
