Smoking
Since 2007, a comprehensive smoking ban has been in place in France in all public buildings, restaurants, bars, cafés, train stations, and workplaces. Since 2008, also in nightclubs and casinos.
- Terraces: Smoking is allowed on open outdoor terraces of cafés and restaurants — on covered terraces only if at least one side is open
- Hotels: Most hotels are non-smoking. Smoking rooms have become rare
- Beaches: More and more beaches are being declared smoke-free — pay attention to signs
- E-cigarettes: Prohibited in enclosed public spaces and public transport, allowed on terraces
- Cigarette prices: Approx. €12–13 per pack (significantly more expensive than in Germany). Many French people buy in Spain or Andorra
