Company's Garden

Cape Town's oldest garden (founded in 1652 by Jan van Riebeeck as a vegetable garden for the Dutch East India Company) is now a beautiful public park in the heart of the City Bowl. Ancient oaks, a rose paradise, a Japanese garden, and cheeky squirrels that eat from your hand. Several museums are located on the edge of the garden: the Iziko South African Museum (natural history), the South African National Gallery, and the Planetarium. Admission to the garden: free.

District Six Museum

One of South Africa's most moving museums. District Six was a vibrant, multicultural district in the heart of Cape Town — until the apartheid regime declared it a "whites only" area in 1966 and forcibly relocated over 60,000 people. Their homes were demolished. The museum tells the stories of the displaced with photos, personal items, and a street map on the floor where former residents have marked their addresses. Harrowing and unforgettable. Admission: 60 ZAR (3€).

Signal Hill & Lion's Head

For the best sunset in Cape Town, head to Signal Hill — a flat hill between the City Bowl and the Atlantic, where you can watch the sun set directly over the sea, with Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles in the foreground. Free, parking available, very popular at sunset — arrive early! The Lion's Head (669 m) is a short but steep hike (1–1.5h one way) with a 360-degree panorama over Cape Town. The full moon hike with hundreds of Capetonians is a highlight.

Camps Bay & Clifton Beaches

Just 10 minutes from the City Bowl are Cape Town's most glamorous beaches. Camps Bay offers a palm-lined promenade, trendy restaurants, and a wide white sandy beach against the backdrop of the Twelve Apostles — the most photographed beach in South Africa. The Clifton Beaches (1st to 4th Beach) are more sheltered from the wind and exclusive — 4th Beach is the most popular, 3rd Beach is the "Gay Beach." However, the water is icy cold (10–14°C) — more posing than swimming happens here.
