Islamic Arts Museum★★
The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia is the largest museum of Islamic art in Southeast Asia — and one of the most impressive of its kind worldwide. On four floors, it displays over 7,000 artifacts from the entire Islamic world: calligraphy, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, weapons, and a breathtaking collection of mosque models from around the world.
The highlight is the Architecture Gallery on the ground floor — scale models of famous mosques from Al-Haram in Mecca to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, each crafted with incredible detail. The Quran Gallery showcases centuries-old manuscripts from China, India, Persia, and the Ottoman Empire. Particularly impressive: A giant Quran from Terengganu (14th century), written on bark skin.
The building itself is a work of art — a radiant white structure with turquoise tiles, surrounded by the Perdana Botanical Gardens (KL's oldest park). The museum's restaurant IAMM Dining offers a beautiful view of the gardens and serves excellent Middle Eastern and Malay food.
💡 Tipp
Plan for 2–3 hours. The museum is fascinating even for non-Muslims — the aesthetics of Islamic art are overwhelming. The museum shop sells exquisite souvenirs (calligraphy prints, ceramics). Combine the visit with a walk through the Botanical Gardens.
