Jalan Alor — Street Food Mile★★★
Jalan Alor is KL's most famous food street — a 300-meter-long street in the heart of Bukit Bintang that transforms into a steaming, sizzling, fragrant open-air restaurant in the evenings. Hundreds of plastic chairs and tables line the street, woks spit flames, grills smoke, and the aroma of satay, grilled chicken wings, and Char Kway Teow fills the air.
The street has been a hawker center since the 1960s and has retained its authentic charm despite the modernization of Bukit Bintang. Here, locals and tourists eat side by side — and that's what makes it so appealing. Prices are fair (not the cheapest in KL, but reasonable for the location), and the quality is consistently high.
What you must try
- Satay: Grilled meat skewers with peanut sauce — the national dish to start with. From 1 MYR per skewer.
- Grilled Chicken Wings: Jalan Alor's specialty — marinated and grilled over charcoal. Look for the stall with the longest line.
- Char Kway Teow: Fried rice noodles with shrimp, egg, and soy sauce — smoky and addictive.
- Durian: The "king of fruits" — loved or hated, but a must in Malaysia. Jalan Alor has specialized durian stalls.
- Ais Kacang: Shaved ice with beans, corn, jelly, and colorful syrup — the perfect dessert in the heat.
💡 Tipp
Arrive after 6:00 p.m. when the stalls are set up. The street is lively until midnight. Just sit down and order — the service will come to you. Tip: The small side alleys often have the best (and cheapest) stalls.
