Internet Quality
- Resorts: Free Wi-Fi in almost all resorts — quality varies from excellent (5-star resorts with fiber optics) to frustrating (simpler resorts). Generally sufficient for video calls and streaming.
- Local Islands: Wi-Fi in guesthouses is standard, but speed fluctuates. A local SIM card is highly recommended as a backup.
- On the Water: Mobile coverage on the open ocean and remote atolls can be patchy. No reception on seaplane flights and long boat trips.
💡 Tipp
Dhiraagu has better coverage on the remote atolls. Buy the SIM directly at the airport (counter in the arrival hall) — you need your passport. Activation takes 5 minutes. eSIM option available via Airalo or Holafly if your phone supports it.
