Why Montenegro?
Montenegro is a country that overwhelms you with its dramatic beauty. On an area smaller than Schleswig-Holstein, snow-capped peaks rise directly behind one of Europe's most beautiful coastlines. The Bay of Kotor, often referred to as the "southernmost fjord in Europe," is among the most breathtaking landscapes on the continent — and that's just the beginning.
- Bay of Kotor (UNESCO) — A fjord-like sea bay, framed by mountains up to 1,700 meters high, with Venetian old towns, orthodox monasteries, and tiny church islands. Kotor itself is an architectural jewel with 2,000 years of history.
- Adriatic Coast — 293 kilometers of coastline with over 70 beaches, from the glamorous peninsula of Sveti Stefan to secluded coves near Ulcinj. The water is crystal clear, the summer season long and sunny.
- Durmitor National Park (UNESCO) — Wild canyons, glacial lakes, and over 50 peaks above 2,000 meters. The Tara Canyon is the deepest canyon in Europe at 1,300 meters — a paradise for rafting and canyoning.
- Lake Skadar — The largest lake in the Balkans, shared between Montenegro and Albania. Pelicans, water lilies, sunken monasteries, and a tranquility rarely found in Europe.
- Affordable — Montenegro is significantly cheaper than Croatia or Italy but offers comparable landscapes and beaches. A first-class dinner costs 15–25€, a double room with sea view from 50€.
- Compact — From the coast to the mountains takes only two hours. You can lie on the beach in the morning and hike a two-thousand-meter peak in the afternoon. Few countries offer so much diversity in such a small space.
- Hospitality — Montenegrins are legendary for their hospitality. A coffee is always offered, strangers are treated like family, and "Nema problema" (no problem) is the philosophy of life.
- Emerging — Montenegro is an EU candidate country and is developing rapidly. New boutique hotels, sustainable lodges, and culinary projects are emerging — but the country has retained its authentic charm.
Montenegro is the counter-program to the overcrowded Mediterranean coast: Here you will still find secluded beaches, untouched mountain landscapes, and genuine encounters — at prices significantly lower than those of its neighbors. Anyone who has once stood in Kotor and seen the mountains rise in the bay will never forget this sight.
