Empire State Building
The Empire State Building (1931) is the most famous building in the world — and after almost 100 years, still the heart of the New York skyline. 381 meters tall (with antenna 443 meters), 102 floors, Art Deco architecture that feels timelessly modern. From King Kong to Sleepless in Seattle to An Affair to Remember — no building has been immortalized in film more often.
Observation Decks
- 86th Floor Observatory (Main Deck): The classic observation deck — an open outdoor terrace (one of the few in New York!) at 320 meters with a 360-degree view. At night, when Manhattan sparkles below you, it's pure magic. Admission: $44.
- 102nd Floor Observatory (Top Deck): Even higher (381 meters), but enclosed and smaller. Admission: $79 (includes 86th Floor). For the wow effect, the 86th floor is enough.
Practical Information: Daily 10 AM–12 AM (last elevator 11:15 PM). Book online in advance! Express tickets ($65) avoid the main line. The best time: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset — this way you experience the daytime view, the sunset, AND the city at night in one visit.
💡 Tipp
Empire State Building vs. Top of the Rock? Both have their strengths: From the Empire State, you see the whole city, but not the Empire State Building itself. From the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center, $43), you see the Empire State Building AND Central Park. Ideally: one during the day, the other at night.
