Rockefeller Center
The Rockefeller Center is an Art Deco complex of 19 buildings, built in the 1930s by John D. Rockefeller Jr. The centerpiece: the Rockefeller Plaza with the golden Prometheus statue and the famous ice rink (October–April, from $20). In winter: the giant Christmas tree (since 1933, up to 30 meters tall) — one of the symbols of New York Christmas.
- Top of the Rock: The observation deck on the 30 Rockefeller Plaza — 70 floors, the best view of the Empire State Building and Central Park simultaneously. Admission: $43. Less queue than the Empire State Building, and no fence obstructing the view.
- NBC Studios Tour: The Rockefeller Center is home to NBC — the Tonight Show (Jimmy Fallon), Saturday Night Live, and Today Show are produced here. Studio tour: $38. You can watch the Today Show (Mon–Fri from 7 AM) live through the glass at Rockefeller Plaza — free!
- Radio City Music Hall: The legendary Art Deco theater (6,015 seats!) is home to the Rockettes (Christmas dance show). Backstage tour: $31.
Fifth Avenue
The most famous shopping street in the world — from Washington Square Park to Harlem, but the legendary section is between 49th and 59th Street: Tiffany & Co. (the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" store), Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, the Apple Store (glass cube), and the flagship store of Trump Tower. At Christmas: the spectacular window decorations of Saks and Bergdorf Goodman.
Grand Central Terminal
The most beautiful train station in the world (1913) — even if you don't need to catch a train. The Main Concourse with the painted star map on the ceiling (2,500 stars, mirrored!), the huge arched windows, and the golden glowing clocks is an architectural marvel. In the basement: the Grand Central Food Court with excellent, affordable food and the Oyster Bar (since 1913, oysters and seafood under vaulted ceilings). Whispering Gallery: In front of the Oyster Bar — whisper against the vaulted corner, and your counterpart on the other side (10 meters away) hears every word. Free, accessible anytime.
