Keukenhof — Flower Paradise★★★
The Keukenhof near Lisse is the most famous flower park in the world — and an experience you must have once in a lifetime. Every spring, 7 million flower bulbs bloom on 32 hectares: tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, crocuses in all imaginable colors and shapes. The explosion of scents upon entering is overwhelming.
Important to Know
- Only open for 8 weeks! — Mid-March to mid-May (exact dates vary annually). The tulip bloom usually peaks in the third week of April.
- Book online in advance — Mandatory! Time slots are allocated to avoid overcrowding. The park is full on weekends and holidays — come during the week!
- Surrounding flower fields — At least as spectacular as the park itself: The fields around Lisse, Hillegom, and Noordwijkerhout glow in April in stripes of red, yellow, pink, and purple. Explore by bike (Bollenstreek Route, 35 km)!
- Getting There — Direct buses from Amsterdam Schiphol (Line 858) and Leiden (Line 854). Travel time: 30–40 min. Parking on-site: €8.
The Keukenhof is not just tulips: There are flower exhibitions in pavilions, a windmill hill with panoramic views, playgrounds for children, sculpture gardens, and a historic castle. Plan for 3–4 hours — and bring an empty memory card for your camera.
