On Djurgården, right next to the Vasa Museum, lies ABBA The Museum — an interactive experience centered around Sweden's most famous band. The museum goes far beyond an exhibition: You can sing and dance on the virtual stage with the ABBA holograms, admire original stage costumes (yes, the platform shoes and glitter suits are real — and surprisingly small), relive the story of Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Frida, and record music in an authentic Polar Studio.

The Highlights

  • "Fifth Member" Experience: In a special room, you become part of the band via avatar and sing "Waterloo," "Dancing Queen," or "Mamma Mia" on a virtual stage — using augmented reality, you stand among the four ABBA members. Kitschy? Maybe. But is it fun? Absolutely — even die-hard skeptics come out grinning.
  • Stage Costumes: The original costumes from the 1979/80 world tour, from the 1974 Eurovision victory, and from the music videos. The absurd 70s outfits (platform shoes, capes, sequins) were not only extravagant for taste reasons: Swedish tax law allowed deductions for stage clothing only if it was "demonstrably not wearable in everyday life."
  • Polar Studio: An authentic replica of the legendary studio where ABBA recorded their hits — including the real mixing console.
  • Ring Ring Helicopter: The authentic helicopter from the ABBA album cover "Arrival" — you can sit inside and take photos.
  • The Telephone: At the entrance, there is a red phone that can actually ring. Whoever picks up might get a surprise call from an ABBA member — Björn and Benny occasionally do call.

The museum is a love letter to pop music and works even for visitors who don't know every ABBA song. The interactive elements (dancing, singing, mixing) make it one of Stockholm's most entertaining museum experiences. Plan for 1.5–2 hours.
