Measurements & Units
The USA uses the imperial measurement system — initially confusing for Europeans, but you quickly get used to it.
| US Unit | Metric | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Mile | 1.609 km | Distances, speed (mph) |
| 1 Foot | 30.48 cm | Height, altitude |
| 1 Inch | 2.54 cm | Screen sizes |
| 1 Pound (lb) | 0.454 kg | Body weight, food |
| 1 Ounce (oz) | 28.35 g / 29.57 ml | Drinks, food |
| 1 Gallon | 3.785 liters | Gasoline, milk |
| °Fahrenheit | (°F − 32) × 5/9 = °C | 70°F ≈ 21°C, 90°F ≈ 32°C |
Quick Rules of Thumb: Miles × 1.6 = km. Fahrenheit: 70 = pleasant, 80 = warm, 90 = hot, 100 = brutal. Pounds ÷ 2 ≈ kg (roughly).
