Volcán Osorno — The Perfect Cone

The Volcán Osorno (2,652 m) is Chile's most photographed volcano thanks to its perfect cone shape — and the symbol of the entire lake district. Its profile is reminiscent of Japan's Fuji, and its snow-capped peak is visible from three different lakes (Llanquihue, Todos los Santos, Rupanco).

Activities

• Cable Car (Teleférico): From the ski station on the south side (1,240 m), a cable car goes up to 1,800 m — panoramic view over Lago Llanquihue and the surrounding volcanoes. Round trip 25,000 CLP. Skiing in winter (small ski area with 3 lifts)
• Summit Ascent: Climbing Osorno is a serious glacier tour — 8–10 hours, crampons and rope needed, only with certified ACGM mountain guide (mandatory!). Price: from 180,000 CLP per person including equipment. The view from the summit over the lake district to Chiloé is spectacular
• Hiking: Several shorter trails at the base of the volcano: Sendero Paso Desolación (3h, through lava fields), Sendero Lago Todos los Santos (2h, to the crystal-clear lake)
• Canyoning & Ziplining: Adventure tours in the lava gorges of the volcano. Half-day from 35,000 CLP

Parque Nacional Vicente Pérez Rosales

The oldest national park in Chile (1926) surrounds Osorno Volcano and the emerald green Lago Todos los Santos (All Saints Lake). The Saltos del Petrohué — emerald green waterfalls over black lava rock — are the park's most photogenic motif. Entry: 5,000 CLP.
