Practical Tips Paris
Transportation
Metro: The Paris Métro network (16 lines, 300+ stations) is dense, fast, and affordable. Ticket t+: €2.15 (single ride), 10-ticket carnet: €17.35, day ticket "Mobilis" Zone 1–2: €8.45. The Navigo Easy (plastic card, €2 deposit) is the most modern option — you can load tickets via app. Ideal for tourists: Navigo Jour (day pass) or Navigo Semaine (weekly pass, Mon–Sun, €30.75 Zone 1–5 incl. airports and Versailles!).
On foot: Paris is surprisingly compact. From the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre: 35 min. From Marais to Montmartre: 45 min. Strolling is part of the Parisian lifestyle.
Vélib': The city bike rental system (1,400 stations). €5 day pass, first 30 min. of each ride free. Paris has massively expanded bike paths in recent years — along the Seine, it's now completely car-free.
Museum Pass
The Paris Museum Pass (2 days €55, 4 days €70, 6 days €85) grants skip-the-line entry to over 50 museums and monuments: Louvre, Orsay, Versailles, Sainte-Chapelle, Arc de Triomphe, and many more. Worth it from 3–4 museums, especially saves waiting time.
Safety
Paris is generally safe, but pickpocketing is a serious problem at tourist hotspots: Eiffel Tower, Metro lines 1 & 4, Sacré-Cœur, Gare du Nord, Champs-Élysées. Typical scams: "Petition" signature collectors (while you sign, an accomplice reaches into your pocket), "Gold ring" trick (someone "finds" a ring in front of you and wants a reward), shell game at Sacré-Cœur. Carry valuables in a lockable inner pocket.
Best Travel Time
April–June and September–October are ideal: mild temperatures, blooming parks, manageable tourist numbers. July/August is hot (often over 35°C) and crowded, but many Parisians are on vacation (Paris Plages on the Seine is nice). Winter (December–February) has its own charm: Christmas markets, illuminated Champs-Élysées, steaming hot chocolate in cafés.
