Best Travel Time & Monsoon
India's climate is determined by the monsoon — the most powerful weather phenomenon in the world. When you travel significantly affects your travel experience.
The Three Seasons
- Winter / Dry Season (October – March): The best travel time for most regions. Pleasant temperatures (15–30 °C depending on the region), little rain, clear views. December/January can be cold at night in North India (5–10 °C in Delhi, frost in Rajasthan).
- Summer / Pre-monsoon (April – June): Scorching heat up to 45–48 °C in North India. Delhi and Rajasthan are practically unvisitable. Hill stations like Shimla, Darjeeling, and Ooty offer refuge. Kerala and Goa become humid.
- Monsoon / Rainy Season (June – September): The southwest monsoon brings torrential rains that make the land green and vibrant. Roads get flooded, trains delayed, beaches churned. But: low prices, lush landscapes, few tourists. Kerala and the Western Ghats are spectacularly green during this time.

💡 Tipp
The "Sweet Spot" for a classic North India tour (Delhi–Rajasthan–Agra) is February/March: warm but not hot, clear views, and in March, all of India celebrates Holi — the festival of colors.
Achtung
Delhi's air quality is often catastrophic in November/December (AQI over 400). If you are sensitive, avoid Delhi during this time or wear an FFP2 mask. The burning of surrounding fields and Diwali fireworks exacerbate the situation.
