🎒 Backpackers & Budget Travelers
Japan is more expensive than Southeast Asia, but with tricks surprisingly affordable: Capsule hotels from ¥3,000 (19 €), Konbini food from ¥400 (2.50 €), Japan Rail Pass for unlimited Shinkansen rides. Hostels in Tokyo and Kyoto from ¥2,500 (16 €). With ¥8,000–12,000 (50–75 €) per day, you can get by well.

Japan is one of the safest and most child-friendly countries in the world. Kids love the Shinkansen trains, Japan's toy stores, the deer in Nara, and of course, Disneyland Tokyo. Many restaurants offer children's menus (Okosama Set). Children under 6 travel free on trains.
💑 Couples
Ryokans (traditional inns) with private onsen are Japan's most romantic experience. Kaiseki dinners (Japanese haute cuisine), cherry blossom walks, tea ceremonies for two. Especially beautiful: Hakone, Miyajima, Naoshima (art island).
🏛️ Culture & History
Over 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, thousands of temples and shrines, vibrant traditions from sumo to kabuki. Kyoto alone has 2,000+ temples. For history buffs: Samurai castles, Hiroshima, the Meiji Restoration in Tokyo.
🍜 Foodies
Tokyo has the most Michelin stars of any city worldwide. But the best food is often found at the simplest counter: Ramen for ¥800, sushi in the morning at Tsukiji, yakitori under the railway line in Yurakucho. Japan is a culinary paradise at every price level.
