Muizenberg, Kalk Bay & False Bay
The False Bay is Cape Town's warmer, more family-friendly side — with beaches that actually invite swimming (18–22°C in summer), colorful coastal towns, and a relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of Californian beach towns.
Muizenberg
South Africa's surf capital is the best place for beginners: gentle, consistent waves, warm water, and over a dozen surf schools offering lessons from 500 ZAR (25€). The colorful changing cabins on the beach are Cape Town's second most famous photo motif (after Bo-Kaap). Behind it lies a relaxed beach town with cafés, yoga studios, and surf shops.
Kalk Bay
The most charming coastal town on the Cape Peninsula: a main street lined with antique shops, bookstores, art galleries, and excellent restaurants. The Kalk Bay Harbour is an active fishing port where you can buy the fresh catch directly from the boat in the morning. The Olympia Café offers the best breakfast in False Bay. The Kalk Bay Books is one of the most beautiful bookstores in South Africa — hours of browsing guaranteed.
Fish Hoek
A quiet, family-friendly beach with warm water and a shark net (Shark Spotter System). In winter, you can watch whales directly from the beach — southern right whales often come within 50 meters of the shore.
