Tipping
In Croatia, tipping (napojnica) is welcome but not as strictly expected as in the USA. Here's the guideline:
| Situation | Recommendation | How? |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurant | 10–15% if satisfied | Cash or say "Keep the change"; if paying by card, leave extra cash on the table |
| Café/Bar | Round up or leave small change | For a coffee costing €1.80 → give €2.00 |
| Taxi | Round up to the nearest euro | For €12.40 → give €13 or €15 |
| Hotel Housekeeping | €1–2 per night | On the pillow or nightstand |
| Tour Guide | €5–10 per person | At the end of the tour in cash |
| Boat Trip | €5–10 | At the end to the skipper |
| Spa/Massage | 10% | In cash to the therapist |
| Delivery Service | Round up | - |
Important: Tips in Croatia are almost always given in cash — even if you pay by card. The card readers sometimes offer a tip option, but the money doesn't always reach the staff.
💡 Tipp
In simple konobas in the countryside or on the islands, where the host cooks and serves themselves, a heartfelt <strong>"Hvala, bilo je odlično!"</strong> (Thank you, it was excellent!) is worth at least as much as a tip.
