Playa Ancón★★
Just 12 km south of Trinidad lies one of the most beautiful beaches on Cuba's southern coast. The Playa Ancón stretches over 4 km of fine, white sand along turquoise, calm Caribbean waters. Unlike the northern beaches, Ancón is still relatively undeveloped—a few hotels, a diving center, a few beach restaurants, otherwise nature.
The water is shallow and clear, perfect for snorkeling—especially at the eastern end, where a small reef begins. The diving center on the beach offers dives to offshore coral reefs (from 25 €) and a sunken ship.
During the week, the beach is often almost empty. On weekends, Cubans from Trinidad come to swim—a cheerful, musical atmosphere. The Grill Restaurant on the beach serves fresh fish and lobster for 8–15 €.
Getting There
By taxi (5–8 € one-way), bicycle (rental 5 €/day, slight incline, 40 min.), or bus (1 €, irregular). Some Casas Particulares offer shuttle service.
💡 Tipp
Rent a bicycle in Trinidad and cycle to the beach in the morning—the route through sugarcane fields is beautiful. Bring water and sunscreen, as there is little shade on the beach.
