Mangrove Tour & Geopark★★
Langkawi is a UNESCO Global Geopark — the island's geological history dates back 550 million years. The Kilim Karst Geoforest Park tour is the best way to experience this ancient landscape: A 3–4-hour boat trip through narrow mangrove channels, past limestone cliffs, caves, and mangrove forests inhabited by eagles, macaques, monitor lizards, and kingfishers.
Tour Highlights
- Mangrove Channels: The boat glides through narrow waterways, lined with mangrove roots — a silent, mystical world.
- Bat Cave: A limestone cave full of bats — explore with a flashlight.
- Crocodile Cave: An open cave whose entrance is shaped like a crocodile's mouth.
- Eagle Feeding: Sea eagles swoop down on food thrown into the water — spectacular.
- Fish Farm: Floating fish farm where you can see (and touch!) rays, stingrays, and reef sharks in tanks.
Booking: At Kilim Jetty or through your hotel. Group tours from 40 MYR (~€8), private boats from 300 MYR. The tour lasts 3–4 hours and often includes lunch on a floating platform.
💡 Tipp
Take the morning tour (9:00) when the wildlife is most active. Mosquito repellent is a must — without protection, you'll be eaten alive in the mangroves. The private tour is much more relaxed than the group tour and not much more expensive.
