Malaysia for Every Type of Traveler
Malaysia is an all-round travel destination that offers something for every type of traveler — from backpackers to luxury travelers, from families to solo adventurers.
🎒 Backpackers & Budget Travelers
Malaysia is dirt cheap — cheaper than Thailand and Bali. Street food meals from 3 MYR (0.60 €), hostel beds from 20 MYR (4 €), long-distance buses from 15 MYR (3 €). With 80–120 MYR (16–24 €) per day, you can travel very comfortably. AirAsia makes domestic flights a bargain. The infrastructure for backpackers is excellent — well-connected hostels, cheap buses, and friendly locals.
🍜 Foodies
Malaysia is a culinary paradise like no other. The mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Nyonya cuisine is unique in the world. Penang alone justifies a trip. Hawker centers, night markets, Mamak restaurants — you can eat around the clock for almost nothing. From Nasi Lemak for breakfast to Laksa for lunch to Satay in the evening: your stomach will thank you.
👨👩👧👦 Families
Malaysia is family-friendly: safe infrastructure, affordable prices, child-friendly beaches on Langkawi and Penang, aquariums, theme parks (LEGOLAND in Johor!), and the fascinating Batu Caves. Malays love children and your kids will be smiled at everywhere. Medical care in KL and Penang is first-class.
🤿 Divers
Sipadan is world-class — period. But the Perhentian Islands, Tioman, Redang, and the Mulu Caves also offer fantastic diving and snorkeling experiences. PADI Open Water from 800 MYR (~160 €), fun dives from 80 MYR (~16 €). Turtles, reef sharks, barracuda swarms, and coral gardens await.
💑 Couples & Honeymooners
Langkawi resorts right on the beach, sunsets over the Andaman Sea, private jungle lodges on the Kinabatangan River, boutique hotels in George Town's shophouses — Malaysia can be incredibly romantic. And the best part: luxury is affordable here.
