Isla Mujeres★★
Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) is the relaxed little sister of Cancún — only 20 minutes by ferry, but a different world. The 7 km long island has one of Mexico's most beautiful beaches (Playa Norte), colorful streets, and a lightness that Cancún lacks.
Highlights
- Playa Norte: Regularly among the top 10 beaches in Mexico. Powder-white sand, knee-deep turquoise water, palm trees. Sunset with a cocktail is a must.
- Punta Sur: The southern tip of the island with cliffs, a Maya site (Ixchel Temple, goddess of fertility), and sculpture park. 30 MXN.
- Rent a Golf Cart: The best way to explore the island. From 800 MXN/day. The tour takes 2–3 hours.
- MUSA Snorkeling: Underwater sculpture museum (also accessible from Cancún, but closer here). From 600 MXN.
- Tortugranja (Turtle Farm): Breeding station for sea turtles. Small but worthwhile. 30 MXN.
Getting There
Ferry from Puerto Juárez (Cancún Downtown) or the hotel zone. Every 30 min., 20 min. crossing, 300 MXN round trip. Last boat back at 11:30 PM.
💡 Tipp
Isla Mujeres is perfect for a day trip from Cancún or as a quiet alternative for 2–3 nights. On weekends, many Mexicans come — during the week, the island is more peaceful.
