Entry & Visa

EU Citizens

As an EU citizen, you do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. You need a valid passport or identity card. Important: Montenegro is not an EU member and not in the Schengen area — there are actual border controls with passport or ID checks. The identity card is generally accepted, but a passport is recommended.

Registration Requirement

Theoretically, foreign tourists must register with the local tourism organization or police within 24 hours. In hotels, hostels, and official apartments, the accommodation takes care of this. With private landlords or Couchsurfing: ask if the registration is done. In practice, this is rarely checked, but the regulation exists.

Swiss Citizens

Same rules as EU citizens — visa-free stay up to 90 days with a valid travel document.

Customs

Duty-free entry: 200 cigarettes, 1l spirits, 2l wine, personal items. For amounts over €10,000 in cash: registration required.
