Pidurangala — the insider tip next to Sigiriya★★
Pidurangala Rock is just 1 km north of Sigiriya and offers the best view of the Lion Rock — without the crowds and at a fraction of the price. The ascent is shorter than Sigiriya (about 20 minutes), but more adventurous: The last few meters lead over bare rock boulders that must be climbed.
On the summit, a 360-degree panorama awaits you with the Lion Rock directly opposite — the ultimate photo opportunity, especially at sunrise or sunset. Below the summit lies an ancient cave temple with a reclining Buddha statue made of brick.
💡 Tipp
Come for the sunrise — you'll have the rock almost to yourself. Bring a flashlight, wear good footwear. The entrance fee is only 500 LKR (1.40 €). Perfect in combination with Sigiriya on the same day: Sunrise at Pidurangala, then Sigiriya at 7 AM.
