Wilpattu — Safaris without the masses★★
Wilpattu is Sri Lanka's largest national park and the exact opposite of Yala: Here, you often drive for hours through the wilderness without encountering another jeep. The park on the northwest coast was closed for 15 years during the civil war and has thrived during this time.
Wilpattu is famous for its unique landscape of Villus — natural freshwater lakes nestled within the dry forest. Around these lakes gather leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and an impressive birdlife.
