Ba Bể National Park★★
The Ba Bể National Park is located in Bắc Kạn Province — remote, little visited, and therefore magical. At its center lies Ba Bể Lake, one of Vietnam's few natural freshwater lakes, surrounded by dense primary forest and high limestone mountains.
Activities
- Boat trip on the lake: 2–3 hours over the emerald green lake, past caves and waterfalls. Boat: 500,000 VND (18.50 €) for up to 5 people.
- Puong Cave: A passage cave with thousands of bats — the river flows directly through it.
- Đầu Đẳng Waterfall: Cascades in the jungle, accessible by boat and a short hike.
- Trekking: Hikes to villages of the Tày minority, who live in stilt houses on the lakeshore.
- Kayaking: On the lake and its tributaries — one of the calmest paddling routes in Vietnam.
💡 Tipp
Ba Bể is best reached with your own motorcycle (6–7 hours from Hanoi). The homestays of the Tày families on the lakeshore are simple, but the hospitality and the evening atmosphere by the lake are unforgettable.
