★★★ Cyprus Museum

The most important archaeological museum on the island, housed in a neoclassical building from 1908. The collection spans 10,000 years of Cypriot history: Neolithic stone figures from Choirokoitia, Bronze Age pottery, the famous Aphrodite of Soli (1st century BC), Byzantine silver treasures, and the enigmatic terracotta figures from the sanctuaries of Ayia Irini.

The museum is the perfect preparation for the island's archaeological sites — here you understand the connections.

Leoforos Mouseiou 1, outside the old town. 4.50€. Tue–Fri 8:00–18:00, Sat 9:00–17:00, Sun 10:00–13:00, Mon closed. 1.5–2 hours.

★★ Laiki Geitonia

The lovingly restored old town quarter within the Venetian walls. Cobblestone streets, brightly painted wooden balconies, traditional craft shops (silversmith, shoemaker, potter), cozy taverns, and art galleries. Touristy, yes — but authentic in its architecture.

South of Ledra Street. Free access. Best in the late afternoon when the sun casts long shadows in the alleys.

★★ Venetian City Walls

The star-shaped fortification walls (1567–1570) were built by the Venetians to defend against the Ottomans — in vain, as the Ottomans took Nicosia after just 46 days of siege in 1570. The walls are 4.5 km long, 12 m high, and have 11 heart-shaped bastions. Each bastion has a different use today: park, museum, cultural center, café. The Famagusta Bastion houses the city moat park, the Constanza Bastion an open-air event center.

★★ Archbishop's Palace & Byzantine Museum

The imposing palace (1960, neo-Byzantine style) houses the largest collection of Byzantine icons in Cyprus. Highlight: the mosaics and frescoes from the Panagia Kanakaria Church (6th century) in the north, painstakingly recovered after looting and illegal sale. A moving testament to cultural heritage protection.

Plateia Archiepiskopou Kyprianou. 4€. Mon–Fri 9:00–16:00, Sat 9:00–13:00. 45–60 Min.

★ Shacolas Tower (Ledra Museum Observatory)

An observation point on the roof of a department store on Ledra Street — the best 360° view over the divided city. From here, you can see the Green Line, the minarets in the north, and the church domes in the south. Plus a small exhibition on the history of the division.

Ledra & Arsinois. 2€. Mon–Sat 10:00–19:00. 15–20 Min.

★ Leventis Museum

Small but excellent city museum that tells the history of Nicosia from the Bronze Age to today. Particularly noteworthy: the section on the division in 1974 and daily life in the divided city. Free admission!

Ippokratous 17, Laiki Geitonia. Free. Tue–Sun 10:00–16:30.
