Emergency
In Croatia, the European standard emergency numbers apply. All are free, available around the clock, and work even without a SIM card or credit.
| Number | Service | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 112 | General Emergency (Europe-wide) | Multilingual, forwarded; when in doubt, always choose 112 |
| 192 | Police (Policija) | Theft, accidents, threats |
| 193 | Fire Department (Vatrogasci) | Also for forest fires — common in summer! |
| 194 | Emergency Medical Services (Hitna pomoć) | Medical emergencies |
| 195 | Maritime Rescue | In emergencies at sea, also coast guard |
| 1987 | HAK (Roadside Assistance) | Car breakdowns, towing service (chargeable) |
At 112, calls are usually answered in Croatian, but the dispatchers often speak English. Clearly state your location (city, street, landmark) and what has happened.
Achtung
Save 112 and your embassy's number as favorites on your phone — every second counts in an emergency. At sea: VHF Channel 16 is the international emergency channel.
