Best Travel Time & Climate
Mallorca enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, relatively wet winters. With over 300 sunny days a year, the island is a year-round destination — but not every season is suitable for every type of traveler.
🔴 High Season: July – August
Air temperatures 30–35°C, water temperatures 25–27°C. Perfect swimming weather, but also: highest prices (accommodations 100–200% more expensive than in the off-season), crowded beaches (Es Trenc, Cala Mondragó), traffic jams on the coast, and fully booked restaurants. The PMI airport handles over 800 flights on peak days. Cap de Formentor is closed to private vehicles. If you can avoid it, skip July/August — unless the plan is just: beach, pool, cocktail.
🟢 Best Travel Time: April – June and September – October
The absolute recommendation for most Mallorca travelers:
- April/May: The island explodes in colors. Wildflowers cover the fields, poppies line the roadsides, orange blossom in the Soller valley. Perfect hiking temperatures (18–24°C), the sea slowly warms up (17–20°C). Hotels 30–50% cheaper than in summer. Easter is, however, expensive and crowded (Semana Santa!).
- June: Dream month. Water already pleasant (21–23°C), beaches not yet crowded, mild evenings, long days. Prices slowly rise, but still significantly below July/August.
- September: THE insider tip. The sea is warmest (25–26°C!), the crowds are gone, prices drop by 30–40%, evenings are long and warm. The grape harvest begins in Binissalem. Only downside: higher chance of rain towards the end of the month.
- October: Still works wonderfully. Water at 22–24°C, pleasant air (20–25°C), colorful autumn mood in the Tramuntana. Some beach clubs close, but restaurants and hiking trails are fully operational.
🔵 Off Season: November – March
The underrated Mallorca season! Ideal for hikers, cyclists, and cultural travelers. November/December are mild (12–16°C) with occasional rain. January/February bring the famous almond blossom — millions of almond trees cover the island in pink and white (best places: around Bunyola, Marratxi, and in the Pla). Hotels cost a fraction, flights from 30 euros. Many coastal hotels are closed (November–February). Palma, Soller, and the villages of the island center are lively year-round.

September is the absolute sweet spot for Mallorca: The sea has bathtub temperatures (25–26°C), the summer crowds have left, prices drop drastically, and the grape harvest in Binissalem is underway. If you can manage it — September!
