Balangan Beach★★
Balangan is the beach that best embodies Bukit's soul: a long, golden bay at the foot of a lush cliff, lined with simple warungs with bamboo roofs and surfboard racks. No luxury, no beach clubs—just sand, waves, and a panorama that culminates in one of Bali's most iconic sunset views from the top of the cliff.
★★★ Sunset from the Cliff Viewpoint
At the upper end of the access road, there are several cliff cafes from which you can look over the entire Balangan Bay and the Indian Ocean. On a clear day, the sunset glows in shades of red, orange, and violet, reflecting in the water. The cafes serve Bintang beer (35,000 IDR / ~2€) and simple dishes (Mie Goreng: 30,000 IDR). The best view is at "La Joya Biu Biu"—a natural rock terrace over the abyss.
★★ The Beach
The bay is about 500 meters long with fine, slightly golden sand. On the left, distinctive rock spikes rise from the water—a landmark seen in thousands of Bali photos. The beach slopes gently into the water and is suitable for swimming in calm seas. In the surf season (May–September), consistent waves come in, suitable for advanced beginners.
Parking fee: 5,000 IDR (scooter). Sunbed + umbrella: 50,000 IDR. Fresh coconut: 20,000 IDR. Fresh seafood BBQ on the beach: from 75,000 IDR.
Surfing
Balangan offers an easily accessible left wave that breaks over sandstone and is less dangerous than the reef breaks in Uluwatu or Padang Padang. Ideal for surfers moving up from beginner level and trying reef waves for the first time. Board rental on the beach: 100,000 IDR/day (~6€). Surf lesson (2 hours): 350,000 IDR (~21€).
💡 Tipp
Arrive at the beach by 4 PM, swim and relax for 1–2 hours, then climb back up to the cliff in time for sunset (around 6:15 PM). Order a Bintang, lean back, and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets of your trip. During the week, Balangan is much quieter than on weekends when expats and locals come.
