Emergencies
In an emergency, the European standard emergency numbers apply. All are free, available around the clock, and work even without a SIM card.
| Number | Service | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 112 | General Emergency (Europe-wide) | Multilingual (German possible), will be forwarded |
| 091 | Policia Nacional | Serious crimes, passport loss, foreign affairs |
| 092 | Policia Local | Municipal police, traffic, minor incidents |
| 062 | Guardia Civil | Rural areas, traffic police on country roads |
| 061 | Emergency Doctor (SAMU) | Medical emergencies |
| 085 | Fire Department (Bomberos) | Fire, rescue, also in case of forest fires |
| 900 112 061 | Poison Control | In case of poisoning (also for children) |
In doubt, always dial 112 — the control center will connect you to the right service. The 112 is answered in Spanish, often English or German is possible. Clearly state your location: "Estoy en [place], calle [street]" (I am in..., street...).
Theft/Loss
In case of theft or passport loss: Report to the Policia Nacional (Denuncia, at the Comisaria). Without a Denuncia, no replacement passport, no insurance coverage. Online Denuncia possible at denuncias.policia.es (but only in Spanish).
Achtung
Save 112 and your consulate's number as favorites on your phone. At sea: VHF Channel 16 is the international emergency channel.
