Ourika Valley★★

The Ourika Valley is the most popular day trip from Marrakesh—and rightly so. In just 45 minutes, the landscape changes from the dusty Haouz plain to a lush green river valley with rushing streams, walnut trees, terraced fields, and Berber villages clinging to the rock walls.

Setti-Fatma Waterfalls

At the end of the road lies the village of Setti Fatma, the starting point for the hike to the seven waterfalls. The first waterfall is easily reachable in 30 minutes (slippery—sturdy shoes!), the others require increasing surefootedness and a local guide. The cool river water is a blessing in summer.

Berber Markets

On Mondays, a colorful Berber market takes place in Setti Fatma—vegetables, herbs, animals, clothing, tools. Not a tourist market, but an authentic weekly market for the valley's population.

Saffron Garden of Tnine Ourika

At the lower entrance of the valley lies a botanical garden showcasing the flora of the Ourika Valley and explaining the production of saffron, argan oil, and rose water. A good introduction to Berber culture (entrance: 40 MAD, guided tour included).

Berber Cooking Classes

Several families in the valley offer cooking classes: shop together at the market, prepare tagine, bake bread in a wood-fired oven—and then eat together. From about 300 MAD per person, an authentic experience.

💡 Tipp

Avoid the Ourika Valley on weekends—thousands of Marrakechi flock to the greenery for picnics, and the narrow road is jammed. During the week, it is much quieter. In autumn and winter, the river can suddenly swell after rain—caution when hiking!
