Joe's Beerhouse★★★€€
The Namibian institution — and probably the most famous restaurant in all of southern Africa. Joe's Beerhouse is much more than just a place to eat: It is an experience, a museum, a beer garden, and a culinary adventure all in one.
The ambiance is spectacular: A huge, open dining area in the style of an African fantasy workshop, hung with curiosities — stuffed animals, old radios, car parts, tribal masks, and dozens of crazy decorative pieces. Outside, you sit under old trees with fairy lights and fire pits.
The kitchen serves Namibian specialties in oversized portions: Oryx steak, springbok loin, kudu fillet, ostrich steak, and huge spare ribs. There is also Namibian craft beer and — of course — Windhoek Lager on tap. The portions are legendary in size.
Joe's is the perfect place for the first or last evening of a Namibia trip. Reservations are highly recommended — the restaurant is almost full every night.
💡 Tipp
Try the Oryx steak — the most tender game meat in Namibia. And do not order the "giant Eisbein" as an individual. It weighs a kilo.
