Bandar Khairan & the Sharqiya Coast★★
The Hidden Coast East of Muscat
Between Muscat and Sur stretches one of the most beautiful and least visited coastal sections of Oman. The road winds through rugged mountains, offering breathtaking views of secluded bays and turquoise waters.
Stops Along the Coastal Road
- Bimmah Sinkhole (Hawiyat Najm): 90 km east of Muscat. The circular limestone crater with turquoise water is one of Oman's most photographed natural wonders. Stairs lead down to the water — a short, refreshing swim stop on the way to Sur. Parking fee: 0.5 OMR. The local legend of the fallen star makes the place even more magical
- Fins Beach (White Sand Beach): 120 km from Muscat. A picture-perfect beach with white sand and crystal-clear water, framed by rocks. Almost no infrastructure — bring provisions. Locals come to camp on weekends
- Wadi Tiwi: 130 km from Muscat. A quieter wadi than the famous Wadi Shab, with villages, palm groves, and natural pools. The narrow access road through the wadi is an experience in itself — everywhere falaj channels, mango and papaya trees, and friendly villagers. Fewer tourists, more authenticity
- Wadi Shab: 140 km from Muscat. The masterpiece among the wadis — details in the Inland & Desert chapter
