Food Trucks

The Food Truck Revolution has fundamentally changed the American food landscape since the 2010s. What was once the taco truck at the construction site is now a gourmet experience on wheels: Michelin-level quality at street prices, often more creative and better than many restaurants.

The best food truck scenes:

  • Los Angeles — The capital of food trucks. Hundreds of trucks serve everything from Korean BBQ tacos (invented by the legendary Kogi BBQ truck by Roy Choi, who sparked the movement in 2008) to lobster-filled grilled cheese sandwiches.
  • Portland (Oregon) — Entire "pod" places with 20–30 trucks in one location. Every cuisine in the world in one place.
  • Austin, Texas — BBQ trucks, taco trucks, and the famous Torchy's Tacos (started as a truck, now a chain).
  • New York — The Halal Guys (chicken over rice) and Wafels & Dinges are institutions.
  • Hawaii — Shrimp trucks on the North Shore (Giovanni's!), plate-lunch trucks everywhere.

Food truck meals typically cost $8–18 per dish — often the best value for money. Many trucks accept credit cards, some only cash. Apps like Roaming Hunger and Street Food Finder show current locations.
