Shopping — Boutiques, Markets & Tailors★
Seminyak is Bali's shopping capital — a paradise for those looking for handmade jewelry, Balinese fashion, surfwear, interior design, and tailored clothing. The density of boutiques, concept stores, and ateliers along Jalan Kayu Aya (Eat Street), Jalan Oberoi, and Jalan Raya Seminyak surpasses any other area in Bali. Here, both tourists and the Bali expat community shop — keeping quality high and prices fair.
For fashion and design: Jalan Kayu Aya (locally known as "Eat Street" or "Oberoi Street") is Seminyak's designer strip. Magali Pascal (French-Balinese women's fashion, dresses from 800,000 IDR/~47€), Bamboo Blonde (resort fashion, bikinis from 350,000 IDR/~20€), and Lily Jean (sustainable fashion from Bali) are local favorites. In Canggu, a surf and boho fashion scene has developed: The Love Anchor Market (Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, daily 9 AM–9 PM) is an indoor market with over 100 small stalls — vintage clothing, handmade jewelry, beach dresses, and surf accessories. Prices are fixed but fair.
Tailoring is a Bali highlight: In Seminyak, you can have shirts, dresses, suits, and even leather jackets custom-made within 2–5 days. Biasa (Jalan Raya Seminyak) is an upscale address for women's fashion, while the small tailors in the side streets of Jalan Raya Kerobokan make custom shirts from 200,000 IDR (~11.70€) and dresses from 350,000 IDR (~20€). Bring fabrics or choose on-site — the selection of silk, batik, and linen is vast.
For souvenirs and handicrafts: Seminyak Village (Jalan Kayu Jati) is an air-conditioned shopping center with a curated selection — Balinese ceramics, coconut oil cosmetics, aromatherapy products, and fair-trade textiles. For genuine craftsmanship, head to the silversmiths of Celuk (30 minutes east) or the woodcarvers of Mas (near Ubud) — there you buy directly from the artisans, without the Seminyak markups.
💡 Tipp
In the boutiques of Jalan Kayu Aya, prices are fixed — bargaining is not customary here. On markets and in smaller shops, however, haggling is expected: Start at 40–50% of the quoted price. For leather and silver goods: Get a business card and compare prices before buying — quality varies greatly. Observe customs limits: For EU imports, 430€ per person (airplane) applies.
