Padang Padang Beach★★★

Eintritt: 15.000 IDR

Padang Padang is Bali's most famous beach—at least since the film "Eat Pray Love" (2010) with Julia Roberts. The access is cinematic: You descend a narrow staircase, squeeze through a rock crevice in the limestone, and suddenly a pristine little cove with white sand, turquoise water, and dramatic rock formations opens up.

★★★ The Beach

The cove is only about 100 meters wide and framed by high cliffs—giving it an intimate, almost secret atmosphere. The water is crystal clear in the dry season (April–October) and calm enough for swimming. At the left end, distinctive rock spires rise from the water, making excellent photo subjects. There are a few simple warungs (snack bars) on the beach with Nasi Goreng (35,000 IDR / ~2€) and fresh coconuts (25,000 IDR / ~1.50€).

Entrance: 15,000 IDR (~1€). Parking for scooters: 5,000 IDR.

Surfing

Padang Padang is also a top-notch surf spot—but only for advanced and professional surfers. The famous left barrel wave (the "Balinese Pipeline") breaks over a shallow reef and is one of the best tube waves in the world with a big swell (July–September). The Rip Curl Cup, an invitation-only competition for the surf elite, takes place here when conditions are perfect.

Practicalities

The beach gets crowded in the afternoon—especially between 2 and 5 PM when day-trippers and Instagram photographers descend. Come before 9 AM or for sunset. On the parking lot at the top of the cliff, there's scooter rental (75,000 IDR/day) and a small shop for sunscreen and water.

💡 Tipp

There is a second, less known access: "Padang Padang Impossible Beach" or "Blue Point Beach" is just 500 meters further south and significantly less crowded. The descent is steeper (about 150 steps), but the beach is wider and quieter. Locals call it "Thomas Beach"—ideal for swimming without the crowds.
