Accommodations & Transport on Bukit

Where to Stay?

The Bukit Peninsula has no central village—accommodations are spread along the cliffs and access roads. Your choice depends on what you're looking for:

Budget (under 400,000 IDR / ~24€)

Bingin Cliff — The best budget options on Bukit: simple guesthouses and surf lodges with sea views that would cost three times as much in other regions. Double rooms with a fan from 200,000 IDR, with air conditioning from 350,000 IDR. "Kelly's Warung & Homestay" and "Bingin Garden" are classics. Downside: the many steps to the beach.

Mid-Range (400,000–1,500,000 IDR / ~24–90€)

Pecatu/Uluwatu Center — Villas and boutique hotels with pools, often with breakfast. Good value for money. "The Istana" (from 600,000 IDR) and "Uluwatu Lumbung" (from 500,000 IDR) offer modern rooms, pools, and a central location to all beaches and beach clubs.

Luxury (from 1,500,000 IDR / ~90€)

Cliff Resorts — Bali shows its luxury side here: "Alila Villas Uluwatu" (from 5,000,000 IDR / ~300€) with floating pavilions over the cliff, "Six Senses Uluwatu" (from 8,000,000 IDR / ~480€) with a private infinity pool per villa, or "The Edge Bali" with the famous hanging glass-bottom pool over the abyss.

Transport

Bukit is practically impossible to explore without your own vehicle. There is no public transport, and the distances between beaches are 5–15 km over hilly roads.

  • Scooter (the best option): 75,000–100,000 IDR/day (~4.50–6€). International driver's license theoretically required, rarely checked. Always wear a helmet—police checks are frequent, fines: 250,000 IDR
  • Grab/Gojek: Works in principle, but many drivers avoid the remote beaches. From Uluwatu Temple back to the hotel, it can take 15–30 minutes for a driver to accept
  • Private Driver: Full-day driver (8 hours): 500,000–700,000 IDR (~30–42€). Practical for couples and families wanting to visit several beaches in one day

💡 Tipp

A scooter is indispensable on Bukit—the roads are well-developed, the traffic less chaotic than in Seminyak or Ubud, and the freedom to stop spontaneously at any cliff makes up half of the Bukit experience. Rent from trusted providers (through your hotel), check brakes and lights, and drive defensively—potholes and stray dogs are the biggest dangers.
