Giraffe Centre★★
At the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) Giraffe Centre in Langata, you can experience the endangered Rothschild's giraffe up close — and feed them! From an elevated platform, you offer the gentle giants food pellets while they lick your hand with their up to 45 cm long blue tongues.
The center was founded in 1979 to save the Rothschild's giraffe from extinction — at that time, there were only 130 specimens left in Kenya. Today, there are over 800, a great success. In addition to the giraffes, there is a nature trail through the adjacent forest, home to warthogs and rare birds.
For a special experience: At the neighboring Giraffe Manor (boutique hotel), the giraffes literally have breakfast with you — they poke their heads through the windows of the historic mansion. However: one of Kenya's most expensive accommodations (from 800 USD per person/night) and booked months in advance.
