Karen Blixen Museum★★
"I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills..." — Karen Blixen's famous opening line from Out of Africa (1937) describes this very place. The Karen Blixen Museum is located in the farmhouse where the Danish author lived from 1917 to 1931 and ran a coffee plantation.
The house was converted into a museum after the success of the film with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford (1985). It displays original furnishings, photos, maps, and items from Blixen's time. The garden overlooking the Ngong Hills is beautiful — you immediately understand why Blixen fell in love with this land.
The entire district of Karen is named after her and today is one of Nairobi's greenest, wealthiest neighborhoods — with excellent restaurants, galleries, and the nearby Ngong Forest for walks.
