Atlantic Road (Atlanterhavsveien)★★★
The Atlantic Road (Atlanterhavsveien) is one of the most spectacular roads in the world: 8.3 kilometers, eight bridges winding like a snake over small islands and skerries, with the open Atlantic on both sides. During a storm, the waves lash over the road—a spine-tingling experience.
The most famous of the eight bridges is the Storseisundbrua—a dramatically curved bridge that seems to lead to nowhere from certain angles. It is one of Norway's most photographed motifs.
The road is part of the Norwegian Scenic Route between Bud (near Molde) and Kårvåg (near Kristiansund). It can be driven in 20 minutes, but plan at least 1–2 hours for photo stops. Along the way, there are parking lots, viewpoints, and in summer, opportunities to fish directly from the bridges.
💡 Tipp
The Atlantic Road is most spectacular during a storm—the waves crash over the bridges and driving becomes an adventure. In summer, when it's calm, it is peaceful but less dramatic. The best time of day: early morning or at sunset for the light.
