Henningsvær★★
Henningsvær is called the "Venice of the Lofoten" — a fishing village on several small islands, connected by bridges, at the end of a road winding between mountains and sea. The journey alone is spectacular.
The village has a surprisingly vibrant art and culture scene: The KaviarFactory showcases contemporary art in a former caviar factory, the Lofoten Stockfish Gallery documents stockfish production, and there are several small galleries and craft shops. The Henningsvær football pitch — on a tiny island, surrounded by sea and mountains — is world-famous as "the most beautiful football pitch in the world" (best seen from above/from the air).
Henningsvær is also the center of Lofoten fishing: In winter (January–April), the stockfish racks (hjell), where thousands of cod heads are hung to dry, are everywhere — an unforgettable sight (and smell).
