Reine — The Most Beautiful Village in the World★★★
Reine in the Lofoten is regularly referred to as one of the most beautiful villages in the world — and one look is enough to understand why. Red and white Rorbuer (fishing huts) line the coast, with the jagged peaks of the Lofoten Wall rising behind them like a granite cathedral. At sunset (or midnight sun), the water shimmers in gold, pink, and blue.
The village itself is tiny — barely 300 inhabitants. But the surroundings offer some of the best hikes in the Lofoten:
- Reinebringen (448 m): Steep, challenging, but the view from above of Reine and the surrounding fjords is THE Lofoten photo. The new Sherpa staircase (1,560 steps) makes the ascent safer. About 2–3 hours round trip.
- Kvalvika Beach: One of the most beautiful beaches in the Lofoten — white sand, turquoise water, framed by rocks. 45-minute hike from the road. Wild camping allowed!
- Bunes Beach: Accessible only by boat or hike — even more secluded than Kvalvika.
💡 Tipp
Stay in a Rorbu in Reine (Reine Rorbuer or Eliassen Rorbuer) — right by the water, with a view of the mountains. In winter, the Rorbuer are the perfect starting point for Northern Lights photography. Climb Reinebringen only in dry weather and good visibility — the ascent is dangerous in rain and fog, and the view is non-existent.
