Svolvær — Capital of the Lofoten★★
Svolvær is the largest town in the Lofoten (approx. 4,600 inhabitants) and the main hub for transport and tourism. The town is picturesquely located on the Vestfjord, dominated by the distinctive Svolværgeita (Svolvær Goat) — a rock pinnacle with two "horns" that attract climbers like a magnet.
Things to Do in Svolvær
- Trollfjord Tour: By boat into the 2 km long, only 100 m wide Trollfjord — vertical rock walls, sea eagles, dramatic narrowness. The iconic Lofoten experience (from 800 NOK / 72 €, 2–3 hours).
- Magic Ice Bar: A bar made entirely of ice — walls, furniture, glasses. Kitschy but fun (220 NOK / 20 € incl. drink).
- Lofoten War Memorial Museum: War museum about the occupation of the Lofoten during World War II. Moving and well done.
- Climbing Svolværgeita: For experienced climbers — the jump between the two "horns" at 150 meters height is legendary. Only with a guide (from 1,500 NOK / 135 €).
