Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the most unusual of the Canary Islands—and the one you are least likely to forget. Here, the Earth has turned its innermost parts outward: Over 300 volcanic cones rise from a landscape that seems to belong to another planet. Black lava fields, fiery red glowing mountains, emerald green crater lakes—and in the midst of it all, the visionary signature of a man who saved his island from the madness of building sins: César Manrique. Thanks to his efforts, there is not a single high-rise on Lanzarote, no neon signs, and no construction taller than a palm tree. In 1993, UNESCO declared the entire island a biosphere reserve. Visitors to Lanzarote experience nature and art in a symbiosis found nowhere else in the world.
