Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest and most diverse of the Canary Islands — a continent in miniature. At its center rises Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak at 3,718 meters, surrounded by a lunar landscape of cooled lava. In the north, subtropical forests thrive in misty ravines, while the south attracts sun-seeking vacationers from all over Europe with its guaranteed sunshine resorts. In between lie colonial old towns, remote mountain villages, and a gastronomy that ranges from Guachinches (rustic wine taverns) to Michelin stars. Tenerife rewards the curious: those who look beyond the hotel complex will find an island that continually surprises.
